Sound Wars with the Austin Chronicle

OK peeps. We really need your help with this one. We want to win this competition because we want to play the Austin Hot Sauce Festival, so we can eat tons of hot sauce, play music, drink beer, and drop tons of little hot snakes into the toilet the next day and scream bloody murder for inspiration for our next album. Follow this link and PLEASE vote for us.   I know it is a bit of a hassle because you have to register so they make sure there are no spam cheater voters, but we will thank you will many PBR's and face meltings.  Also, you can vote once per day for the next two weeks.  THAT would be rad if you could help us like that!!!

Promos for new upcoming video

OK, So here's the deal.  Laserz is shooting a new video for it's song entitled Sexual Ninja, which is also the title of the new album being released in the end of July.  We will be having an all out silly string war and will take no prisoners.  We want YOU to be a part of it.  Watch these video directed and produced by Matt Spear and decide if you will choose to part of the mayhem...

Katy's promo coming soon...

Houston, Dean's, Notsuoh, and the Ponderosa

The Toddler lounging bum-style.
So we just went to Houston and played a show at Dean's thank to Wasi Townsend a good friend who plays there every Thursday.  If you do not know Dean's Credit Clothing, it is an avant gard bar/clothing store/venue located next door to an even more avant gard cafe/theater/bar/venue called Notsuoh.  They are both connected by a doorway in-between them.  The most eccentric characters in Houston frequent these places (and there are more eccentric people in Houston than one may initially think.  We checked into our swanky ass hotel called Hotel Icon next door to the venue thanks to a cheap promo deal we got.  Then we wandered over to Dean's and set up on the stage, which is the old storefront display window facing out on Main St.  After a few beers and some sound checks we threw on our suits and threw down.  It seems all the people from Notsuoh heard all the face meting and came over too.  We drank all the PBR that Dean's had and went to work on Notsuoh's supply as well.  Next door Notsuoh had DJ's and acoustic acts playing the likes of Jefferson Airplane.  Oh, and BTW, we added a second drummer to the band.  As if Guillermo couldn't handle his own, we all decided that second drummer would create a stampede of beats to truly vibrate your insides to pieces.  Also, if Guillermo ever wanted the creative freedom to play the keys (because he is so talented), he would be able to do so and not have to always worry about being the one holding the beat (because John and Todd surely can't hold a beat to save their lives.  So, anyway, Katy is now our second drummer bringing a dueling drums/dueling keyboards feel to the group.

After we finished our set, we went and danced with mannequin hands at Notsuoh and then came back for really stony, jazzy, and rad reggae-ish set by Wasi Townsend and his band.  I would highly recommend going to see his band if you are ever in Houston on a Thursday night.  Our bands were an odd lineup together, but I was surprised to see how wonderfully it worked.  His crowd was pleased to see a band as eccentric, lo-fi, and weird as ours and we were happy to be able to dance to some super-professional hi-fi stony reggae.  It's refreshing to break out of your usual scene and appreciate different genres from both ends of life.   Anyway, as if that wasn't enough, a guy invited us to go play at a "speakeasy" called Ponderosa afterhours.  Basically, the scene reminded me of Animal House but with creative weirdos there in lieu of 80's frat boys.  If you are familiar with the 4th st Treehouse in Austin where 5k from Transmography and Lasnacks used to live, it was much lie that.  Well, our manager was willing to take us there so, why not?  The worst that could happen is someone dies in their own puke like Chris Farley, and is that really so bad anyway? (well, yes it is I guess), but the point is, is that it's going to happen to all of us at one point and I certainly do not want to live life having lived in a scared shell.  So we showed up and set up and my turntable did not work, and Katy fell off the drums and has not recollection of even playing the drums.  We all thought she did great.  I decided it was only appropriate to get in my underwear.  Then after a few drunken songs that is when the "If they can, I can" creative splurge hit and everyone pretty much bum rushed the instruments to spark a beautifully chaotic impromptu jam session.  It was so fun to have helped to spark that off and the Ponderosa is like a gas can full of creative energy based around a community of people hungry for anything new, original, imaginative, and uncommercial.  But to put an end to my long-winded account of myself in all of this, I have to say, that I left my recordbag in there with books and records in it and my passport and I think a little bit of money, and out of all those drunk ass motherfuckers, not a single person pilfered anything and Steve texted me to tell me I had left it and that I could come get it.  That to me is what it is all about.  Oh one other thing of course, there was a dog wearing a tie to come greet us when we showed up there the next day to get the bag.  I shit my pants laughing.

Gettin' crazy with Howard Hughes

Laserz has been extremely productive in the past two months with the recording of a new album,. several shows played in Austin and Bryan/College Station, and upcoming shows in Houston and San Antonio.  The new album is being mastered and will be released in July 2011 with a cd release party at the end of the month.  We just filmed a promo video directed by Matt Spears for a directed video for the song Sexual Ninja, which also is the name of the new album.  Laserz has developed somewhat of a split personality with one side being bizarre lo-fi electronic punk and the other side being dancy, hoppy, beats with turntablism and odd keyboard riffs.  Here is a video that represents the more punk side of Laserz:
The song "Sexual Ninja" can be found in the Laserz Blogger page.
